Animals of Australia
We arrive late on Sunday night into Adelaide and were greeted by our friends at the gate. I guess Australia understands that anyone should be able to go through security even if they're not holding a ticket for a flight. We drove the short distance to the seaside home and enjoyed a nightcap before turning in.
The next morning we headed up into the hills to Cleland Wildlife Park to enjoy some of the unusual wildlife from Australia. It was a beautiful day to walk around this large, open park which allowed up close and personal contact with most of the animals.
Our first destination was to the Koala exhibit because at 11:00 a.m. there would be an opportunity to actually touch one. One couple in line had come all the way from Germany primarily to have a chance to hold a Koala. They allowed small groups in to have a chance at seeing her up close and touching her. They are very soft and of course very cute.
There were areas set up around the park to see animals of different varieties and from different parts of the country. Of course, marsupials figured prominently and many of them had babies in their pouches.
Also quite plentiful were colorful birds that we're used to seeing only in zoos and pet stores. It was amazing getting to see them in the wild!
There we other creatures too, from the Dingo to lizards.
I highly recommend a visit to the park if you get close to Adelaide.
On our way back to Adelaide, we stopped in the German community of Hahndorf for a bite of lunch. We found a winery that also served lunch. We set out back and enjoyed a pizza. This looked like it could be a very cute town that would be fun to hang out on the weekend.
This evening, we cooked out and our friends' daughter, son-in-law, and grand-kids came over. What a beautiful and lively family! It was good to put faces to names. We also enjoyed a beautiful sunset off the back patio. What a great first day in the country.
